Wonderful post, Wayne, and especially the sketches! I find it fascinating that a key message to Juliet was held up because of plague quarantine and resulted in her death.

Enjoyed the post. I always feel that Covid was awful as I am a boomer and lived through it. No meds just my own immune system. The second thing I always feel is how awful it was for the people in charge to manipulate a terrible situation into a fear that has caused so much devastation to society. The fact that you still carry an N-95 mask in your pocket testifies to that anxiety in society and the covered isolation of human interaction from facial expressions brought on with the mask. The virus itself is not evil but the manipulation seems evil to me.

I did respiratory fit testing and protection in industrial settings for some very dearly gasses and environments. The problem with your N-95 paper mask is the fit testing. It doesn’t work and in fact is not allowed by OSHA. I could prove it to you with irritant smoke and a recital of the poem you have to say to ensure the thing is protecting you. But that pales beside the point of what fear has done to us, our children, and my grandchildren. I don’t know how we can protect ourselves from our own stupidity in assuming that the government in and of itself knows what is best for us when we don’t use our own critical thinking skills. I always referred to this simple statement in teaching respiratory protection, I don’t know everything and I have only seen what I have seen but I do know this about what I am telling you from my own experiences. You see, I have seen quite a lot about masks, how they work, what you need to be safe, and I know particle size and how parts per million work. Keep your mask in your pocket, step closer to people, engage in lives of people without fear of an unseen virus, the odds are in your favor, but the anxiety we spread with masks in the neurodiverse population is far worse than you think. We are all temporarily here on the spinning rock, the odds of dying are 1 in 1, and we all get our turn in the experience. For me I am not wearing the mask. I am going to live this life and experience it to the fullest without fear and encourage your to do the same.
